Vallie Lynn Watson’s first novel, A River So Long, is forthcoming from Luminis Books in June 2012, and her work appears in dozens of literary magazines such as PANK, Nano Fiction, FRiGG, and Moon Milk Review. Watson is an assistant editor at Blip Magazine and teaches creative writing at Southeast Missouri State University.
One Sunday afternoon he was able to come over on short notice. She showered but put sweats back on, didn’t bother with makeup; he’d not seen her so casual. The curtains were drawn. She’d pulled her sofa right up to the television for a ten-hour catch-up of her soap opera. They stayed under couch blankets for three hours. She
taught him the show.
Three mornings later, a free hour before work, he said he was sad to see the couch back against the wall, like the party was over. She thought, “Oh I love him,” but did not say it.
