And don’t you know yourself best
when you’re this close to death
all day lost in the loft smelling purple as sex.
Japheth, vulpine, rad red Tantalus
offers you chocolate nails horseshoes and cards
a castle of claws antlers that crackle
and nothing to drink on the foam mattress
but Pine Sol. You knock it aside
call it a wash sob for an hourglass.
