IN THE
DARKNESS

Patricia McKernon Runkle

This
prayer
would
tap
like a
red-
tipped
cane

I bow
before the
mystery of
boundless
grace and
compassion

I gave
over my
precious
mind
to this
slender
rod
and got
each day
a plot
where I
could
place a
single
naked
foot
