“Soon, your old friends will remind you of your forgotten childhood joys.”
It was all fresh air
and helplessness that summer.
Sleep was like falling down a hole,
lunch was a lifeboat.
This was before I started living
on crudités and ice cream.
When I could sit on the back of a tied pony
and read a book.
The first alarm clock:
a sunrise like lilac water,
slightly singed toast,
It was my idea to make the special breakfast.
Naming the rocks was, too.
